A letter from Chris McCandless, Clerk of New England Yearly Meeting, regarding FUM personnel policy was read and discussed. Deana Chase is to speak on this subject at the Quarterly Meeting this Saturday. A public address system is being rented for the Summer Conversations and will be tried out at the Quarterly Meeting to be held at Allen's Neck Meeting on Saturday, July 28. It is felt that amplification of this type may improve communication during Sunday Meeting for Worship. Many months ago authorization was given to purchase such a system and this one may be purchased since the rental cost can be applied towards the purchase price. Meeting approved setting up of a three session Quaker studies program for this Autumn with Ruth Bourns, Charles Howland and Bradie Metheny, reporting back to the next Monthly Meeting on this. Sessions would be open to other meetings. The high cost of funerals was discussed. The Memorial Society, a national organization which has a local branch, will be investigated as they are helpful in arranging funerals at a reasonable cost. Minister officiated at the marriage of Marit Ingalls and David Ionata at Allen's Neck Meeting, July 21. Friends General Conference gathering was attended by the minister and he has brought back to First Day School two curricula. Keynote speaker was a new Testament scholar. Peter will be commuting each day to Yearly Meeting and will gladly drive others interested in attending. Yearly Meeting will be held at Bryant College in Smithfield, RI from Saturday August 4th, to Thursday, August 9th. Finance Committee presented a two page Fiscal Forecast. All of the items in this forecast will be discussed during the fiscal year. The Committee will study Building & Grounds, Parsonage Committee and Clambake Committee as to their anticipated large capital expenditures that loom in the future. The Meeting approved of permitting an Alcoholics Anonymous group to use the Fellowship Hall for their meetings.
