On Sunday, June 22nd, the Allen's Neck First Day School is holding a chicken box-lunch fundraiser for Kakamega Care Center in Kenya. The funds raised will be used to purchase chickens for the families and children of the care center, as well as bags of chicken-feed and the materials to build chicken-coops.
Sukie Rice (our Durham, Maine Contact for "Friends of Kakamega") calls it a kind of "small-scale heifer project".
Tickets for the box-lunch are being pre-sold, and cost 6 dollars.
Each box-lunch will contain: a chicken salad sandwich, chips, cookies, baby carrots, and a drink.
Pick-up is Sunday, June 22nd, at 10:00 AM at the Meetinghouse.
Tickets are available for purchase from any child in the First Day School. You can also call Dawn Tripp at 508-636-8562 or Diana Mendes at 508-636-7712.
Keep in mind:
1 box-lunch ticket ($6) buys 1 layer chicken and its feed for 3 months.
4 box-lunch tickets ($24) builds a chicken coop.
On June 22nd, the morning of the box-lunch pick up, there will be containers set up in the Social Hall to collect other small items that Kakamega needs: tooth paste, tooth brushes, pencils & soap. These items and the money raised, will be sent with Sukie when she travels to Kenya in July.
