Here is Purity

Dear Allen’s Neck Friends,
Here is your Purity! She is a kind, solid, centered young woman who still loves to sing and dance. She has said she would like to become a police woman but she is also interested in becoming an airline hostess so that she might travel. To be a policewoman you need to be at least 5' 8" (which she is). You cannot have any scars or missing teeth (which show that you might not win in a fight!) and you need to graduate from high school with a certain grade which she believes she can achieve.
Asante sana, Sukie

The following is a letter to us from Purity, who lives at the Kakamega Care Centre in Kenya and is sponsored by Allen’s Neck Meeting.
Dear Friends,
Get much greetings in the name of our almighty Jah (Lord) . I hope you are fine, for me here in Kenya am 100% fine.
Am now in Form 3, next year am going to Form 4 am working hard to achieve my goals as you know that education is key to life and am supposed to fit in this dynamic world.
Life in Kenya is not as the same in U.S. A. Life in Kenya is so hard, many people are really suffering, in some parts of the country there is no peace, people are really fighting, but I hope in the time pass the war will calm down.
In Kenya to get a job is not easy, one has to present the papers which are not good you can’t get any job.
In my country some parts are not receiving rain at all but others there is a lot of rain and it also causes floods. To add on that it is very sympathetic that last year there was a conflict , but up to now some people are still in excile. There house has been displaced, they do not know how to do.
Dear Friends, am talented in singing, I live singing very much. If Jah wishes, I may one day come to ur place so that I may express my talent.
Then I have 3 careers opportunities; one I would like to become a Police; Musician or Journalist. Am working hard to fulfill my dreams.
Lastly I pray to God that may you live longer and have a happy life and may God bless your work of your hands because it is written it’s more blessed to give than to receive and with God everything is possible, am really missing you my friends.
Purity
(Editor’s Note: This is as close to the original as possible. It was difficult to read her handwriting, but it was felt that the readers should have a sense of who Purity is by reading her letter in her own words.)
