2009 Allen’s Neck First Day School 2010
Dawn Tripp
In the First Day School, we are fortunate to have such wonderful support from our Meeting – financial support for our programs and initiatives; participatory support for our shoebox drive and our ongoing clothes drive for homeless children in New Bedford; support when we are gathering ingredients to make our monthly meals for Market Ministries; and above all, the day to day positive and constructive comments we receive from the members of our Meeting. That support is what makes our First Day School such a dynamic and magical place where children can experience a wealth of community, and feel nurtured in their endeavors to make the world a better place.
So, thank you!
We want to thank EVERYONE who donated to our collection for Haiti. We collected 650 dollars in our shoebox! we have allocated it to the organizations below:
100 dollars to AFSC (American Friends Service Committee) for work they are doing to partner with other organizations in Haiti.
300 dollars to Partners In Health (a Boston-based relief organization in Haiti.)
250 dollars to UNICEF; this donation is specific to UNICEF’s work in Haiti, UNICEF has designated a particular fund in which 100% of all donations will go directly to the people of Haiti and the relief work UNICEF is doing on the ground there right now.
For the past two weeks in FDS, we have been talking with the children about the earthquake and consequences in Haiti in relation to Martin Luther King’s “I have a dream…” As a group, we have been talking about our dreams, both our dreams as individuals and our common dreams and how we work together to actualize those dreams as a community.
In response to this conversation, we have set forth the following:
“We have a dream that the children of Haiti will be better off next week, and the week after that, than they are now.”
The ‘shoebox money’ we have collected through the generous donations of the members and attenders of our meeting goes toward that dream.
Thank you!
Also, thanks to everyone who has signed up to bring ingredients for our February 7th -- meal for Market Ministries. Under the guidance of Dawn Stopka, we are making chicken pot pie, and we will be delivering that meal to Market Ministries directly after meeting on that Sunday.
