The President of The United States has the State of the Union Report, the Governor has the State of the State Report and Quakers have The State of Society Report. This report is written by each Meeting every year and submitted to New England Yearly Meeting. It is to be a summary of the past year’s spiritual condition of the Meeting. Following is the State of Society Report for Allen’s Neck Meeting for the year 2009.
Allen’s Neck Monthly Meeting
State of Society Report - 2009
We gather on First Day, partly programmed and partly in silent waiting worship. Often we feel the Presence in our Midst. A growing number of worshippers rise with messages. Those who are unwell or burdened are visited by our pastor and several committed members.
Our paid minister has announced that he is leaving after nine years. His gifts and ministry have blest the Meeting, and we are grateful.
Ministry and Counsel is meeting with and listening to all the members and attenders in a series of sessions to discern what God is calling us to in the future. Meeting is challenged with our direction for the future and attempts to satisfy a diverse and growing meeting attendance.
Our non-traditional First Day School is strengthened and nurtured by the consistent participation of a number of adults. Peace and Social Concerns reaches out to the greater community with our Summer Conversations as well as a series of winter events. Business Meeting is re-discovering Friends’ business practice.
The coffee hour after Meeting for Worship is a time of joy and fellowship as well as the various book and study discussion groups. We have welcomed a number of new members this year.
