Letter from Dawn and Steve

Through November we continued our exploration of Bible stories from the Old Testament, and we spoke about those stories in terms of ‘unseen’ gifts; giving, forgiveness, Thanksgiving. We read Isaac Singer’s retelling of Noah’s Ark, and we made doves as symbols of peace and symbols of how each of us has a different and special gift to give and how, at the same time, we are all the same. In the middle of the month, Peter told the story of Joseph and the multi-colored coat, and we spoke about how that story is a story of forgiveness. On Family Sunday, we did our traditional reading of Stone Soup. The children made a cardboard pot to hang on the bulletin board and in the pot, along with cut-out vegetables, they put the words of the ‘unseen’ ingredients that went into the making of that soup" ‘love,’ ‘sharing,’ ‘friendship,’ ‘generosity toward strangers.’ On the last Sunday of November, we read the legend of the Poinsettia and talked about invisible gifts, and how it is the love behind a gift that makes that gift special.

For the first several Sundays of December we will be reading different tellings of the Christmas story, and making crèches out of clay figures and driftwood mangers. Each child’s family will have a crèche to take home. Sunday, December 18th will be family Sunday with the Christmas Pageant and a brunch afterward.

On Sunday, December 25, Christmas Day, First Day School will be combined with meeting-for-worship.
