A Tribute to Gordon

At our Christmas Service on December 19th Gordon, who has been our organist for more than 60 years, announced his retirement. He received a standing ovation for a job well done, which surprised and pleased him.  His loyalty and devotion to the Allen’s Neck Friends Meeting is truly appreciated.

It was suggested at the last Monthly Meeting that we honor Gordon’s outstanding service in some appropriate manner. Therefore, I asked him what he would like to have done. He said he didn’t want a special celebration. He knew exactly what he wanted the Meeting to do in his name and that is to send money to the American Friends Service Committee to be used in the South East Asian Tsunami Disaster Relief Fund. This has been done. This act of caring for others on his part shows us the outstanding man Gordon is.

We are thankful not only for his musical ability at our organ, but he has supplied coffee and cream for the social hour after each Sunday morning for many years.

Fortunately for us we will continue to enjoy Gordon’s upbeat personality and his friendly spirit within our church family. We all wish Gordon a happy, healthy retirement. Ann
