Notes from Monthly Meeting for Business 10/26/05

Meeting approved of $1200 for Buildings & Grounds to purchase materials for a cabinet with countertop for storing First Day School projects. Ways and Means reported that the popular meals will begin on November 6 at 4:00 PM with a Chicken and Gravy dinner. Parsonage Committee reported that a new pipe will be installed to the septic tank; the front exterior of the building needs re-shingling; heating system is old and advice is being sought on how to update; a large Maple tree near sewerage system may have to be taken down. Committee is grateful for donation of large refrigerator. Ministry & Counsel asked for approval on a trial basis, to rearrange the seating in the Meeting Room to facilitate communication of all in attendance. Meeting approved the expenditure of up to $300 to obtain a portable microphone, for the same purpose. M&C is investigating future internships similar to that of Katie A. Peace and Social Concerns reported that Melissa E from AFSC is being considered as a speaker on Iraq. Flannel shirts (L and XL) and white tube socks will be collected for Market Ministry again this year. Report from Friends of Kakamega (see display on bulletin board in Social Hall) indicates that the student we sponsor, Samuel, is doing well; the farm is also thriving. They now have 3 cows, two were sent by Allen’s Neck Friends. Newsletter reported that Margie, who is in charge of the Website is looking for another person in the Meeting to help run the Allen’s Neck Meeting Web site.

Kevin and Kate

Until Jack was born, Kate was a staff editor at the Atlantic Monthly Magazine working primarily with the fiction. She helped start the Atlantic’s popular student writing contest and still serves as a judge each year. Before working for the Atlantic, Kate worked at Houghton Mifflin. She grew up in New Hampshire and is a graduate of Bowdoin College in Maine.

Kevin has worked for 20 years in film and TV production. He started his career in Sports Television, then worked on feature films, commercials, and music videos in Baltimore, New York and Los Angeles. He moved to Boston to work in documentaries and spent five years working as an editor and cameraman with Ken B on several films including the BASEBALL series and his biography on Thomas Jefferson. He started his own production company, Indigo Studios, in 1996, and RACE TO THE MOON is their first primetime TV documentary. Indigo has done smaller projects for the JFK Presidential Library and the Boston Red Sox. On all of Indigo’s projects he serves as writer, producer, and director. He also published an adventure travel book, AFRICA SOLO, which was a Barnes and Noble "Great New Writers" selection. He grew up in Virginia, went to college at the University of Virginia, and received his Master’s degree from Dartmouth College in New Hampshire.
