We read Sandy Sassos retelling of the myth of Adam and Eve, a story which described the first sunset, the first night, when Adam and Eve did not know that the sun would rise again and were afraid God had taken the light from them and wondered why. In our discussion, we talked about faith and how we can have faith both in the dark and in the light, and we can have faith as well that one will always follow the other. We talked about how the sun rising and setting is a reminder of Gods promise to us, and a reminder of our own light. With Sharon A, the children designed mobiles, a sun on one face and a moon on the other, to take home.
We also read Sandy Sassos retelling of the story of Cain and Abel, and talked about this story in terms of the small violences, the small unkindnesses, that children sometimes will experience at school, or with their peers. We talked about different ways to address and resolve conflict and how to work toward peace. We talked about how small gestures of peace can expand and ripple out to create larger changes in the world.
On October 23, we took the children to Arline and Bobs farm to gather pumpkins for the Family Halloween Party on October 29th. On October 30th, the last Sunday of the month, we are planning to talk about the light within and how when we focus on that light, we can begin to make the world and the community around us more beautiful. Then we will plant daffodil bulbs alongside the Meetinghouse as we did last year on Halloween.
In November we will be continuing to explore bible stories from the Old Testament with the children. There will be a family Sunday on November 20th, with a traditional reading of the story, STONE SOUP.

The Writing Group is a group of people who meet informally every Friday evening at 6:30 at the Meetinghouse. Tea and very light refreshments are served. The session begins with a reading to stimulate the imagination. Every one then writes for approximately 5 minutes on the topic that has been suggested or a personal memory associated with the reading. They are not writing to perfect their literary skills, but mostly to connect with their inner spiritual selves. Many are surprised at what comes out of this writing; thoughts and feelings they didnt know they had spill out onto the paper. Reading aloud what has been written is purely voluntary, but most find this sharing to be a wonderful experience in itself.
Jan D is a regular participant and says she enjoys the camaraderie of the group. Call Jan if you have any questions.

Through Compound Eyes Hello, Im Fernando Fly and Im here to tell you that buzzing about is where its at. I thoroughly enjoy these writing groups , especially while youre writing. Then I can have my way with the crackers, cookies and any of the other goodies that you bring to the group, while you are too distracted to swat me. Those seseme seeds are especially tasty. I also appreciate that none of you are very good shots, so that I dont have to concentrate very hard to avoid your swipes at me. Oh no, here come Jim. My pal Tom Tomato Worm told me hes death on bugs. Maybe Ill stay down at Elaines end of the table. Then Ill get to annoy Lindell too. After Ive finished pestering everyone to the point where I can feel some real tension in the group, Ill light over by the fire place and rest my wings. Charlie H |
