Allens Neck Monthly Meeting State of Society Report - 2005
We face challenges -
We are a Quaker Meeting, yet to many we are a rural community church. Sunday worship grows. Can we integrate new families and retain our identity?
We remain a pastoral meeting, while pastoral work spreads among members. We like our pastors help to see that weve all a stake in pastoral work and care.
Our worship looks for balance between silence and programmed time. Both have improved as a result. Many of us feel the Spirit of God is moving amongst us.
First Day School flourishes. Where will we put all these kids? A good problem to have.
The Meeting lost three treasured elderly long time members. Pastoral care rose to this difficult occasion and we learned much from it.
Outreach continues, locally and globally. We continue to nurture leadership and look to the future, yet cherish our past.
Stanley Stopka, Clerk
State of Society Reports are Quaker Versions of the State of the Union Address. At the end of each year Ministry and Counsel of each meeting considers the condition of the Meeting during the past 12 months. "The report should be a searching self-examination by the meeting and its members of their spiritual strengths and weaknesses and of the efforts made to foster growth in the spiritual life. Reports may cover the full range of interest and concerns but should emphasize those indicative of the spiritual health of the meeting." (Faith and Practice, p.244) The report is presented to Monthly Meeting for its approval; then it is sent to Sandwich Quarterly Meeting where all of the State of Society reports of the Sandwich Quarter are read aloud to those in attendance. These reports are kept in Sandwich Quarterly Meeting Minutes. Another copy is sent to New England Yearly Meeting Ministry and Counsel while a third copy remains in the Allens Neck Monthly Meeting Minutes.
