Human yearning for the divine
Is as old as we have records,
probably as old as human language.
The yearning suggests we want
to affirm our human bondedness with,
and dependency on, a Divine "Other"
in order to give life meaning
by finding answers to the questions,
Who am I? Where did I come from?...
In a prayer of yearning,
it is as if a part of us that
rarely lifts its voice
suddenly finds words and cries out in Truth.
Candida Palmer 1983
In the Castle of my soul
Is a little postern gate
Whereat when I enter
I am in the presence of God.
In a moment, in the turning of a thought,
I am where God is
The world of men is made of jangling noises,
With God is a great silence.
But, that silence is a melody,
Sweet as the contentment of love,
Thrilling as a touch of flame.
Walter Rauschenbusch
